I am struggling to find the words to write this.
Right now, our city, our state, our nation, is hurting. We as a society have failed to put an end to systemic racial injustice. Although we have made progress, we have not done our best at making lasting change happen.
As a result, the issues persist as we idly stand by wishing for something to happen.
It’s a hard pill to swallow.
I find myself at a loss for what to say, except for police brutality needs to stop.
Black Lives Matter.
Each night, images of burning buildings and tear-gassed protesters flood our timelines. The pain is palpable. While historically brands and businesses have tried to “stay out of it” or be “politically correct” the time has come to really take a stand and stand up for what is right.
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.” - Desmond Tutu.
The creative industry is using its collective voice to challenge racist ideology and to support causes dedicated to systemic change. We as a community get to do better, be better, and be the change. For me, that means having open and honest conversations, and asking what I can do to better serve our community.
With that being said, please reply to this post to let me know what we can do here at Toolbox LA to support any initiatives, businesses, organizations, and leaders that are working to make change happen.
